UTM link builder

Build a tracked link so you know which bookings came from which email or print piece.

What's a tracked link?

It's your normal link with a few little tags added to the end. The link still goes to the exact same page. The tags just tell MagicianCRM where the person came from. Think of it like a card force: you already know which card they picked.

Fun fact: UTM stands for Urchin Tracking Module. Urchin was a web stats company Google bought back in 2005, and its tools became Google Analytics. The name stuck around, so now every marketer on the planet uses tags named after a sea urchin. Pretty cool.

Source newsletter, medium email

Use this to tell two links in the same email apart.

Fill in the fields above to build your link.

Naming cheat sheet

  • Always lowercase, no spaces.
  • Use the presets when you can.
  • Use month-year for campaign names, like oct-2026.

How to use tracked links

1Why bother?

Last month you got new leads. Which ones came from your newsletter, your take-home trick, or Instagram? Without tracked links, you're guessing. With them, you know exactly what's working, so you can do more of it and stop wasting time on what isn't.

2The three tags that matter

utm_sourcewhere the link lives (newsletter, takehome, instagram)
utm_mediumwhat type of thing it is (email, print, social)
utm_campaignwhich campaign it belongs to (oct-2026)

The presets above fill in the first two for you. You only pick the campaign name.

3Where you'll see the results

When someone clicks your tracked link, that visit shows up in your MagicianCRM stats with its source.

And when they fill out a form, the source gets saved right on their contact record. So when a new booking comes in, you can open the contact and see it came from your October newsletter.

That's the moment it clicks. Real bookings, with a real source attached.

4When to use one

  • Every button in your newsletter.
  • Your link in bio and any link you post on social.
  • Anything printed: take-home tricks, business cards, flyers, posters.

5When not to use one

  • Links between pages on your own website. Adding tags there can overwrite where the person originally came from.
  • Don't rename a campaign halfway through. Pick a name and stick with it for the month.

6Using it with QR codes

Build your tracked link here first. Then paste it into the QR code tool inside MagicianCRM. The QR code tracks the scans, and the tracked link tells you the source when they fill out a form. You get both.

Test every QR code with your phone before you print 500 of them.
